Heat Pump Water Heaters in Sacramento, CA
Not all homes have a connection to a municipal gas line, and some homeowners aren’t comfortable using gas because of potential safety concerns. These homes must rely on an electrically-powered water heater, which can get expensive to run. But there’s an alternative for electric-only homes, which is the heat pump water heater. These water heaters combine the standard storage tank with the efficient performance of an air source heat pump.
If this sounds like something you’d like for your home, or if you have a heat pump water heater in need of service, you can rely on the trained technicians at Crystal Blue Plumbing, Heating & Air. It’s our goal to deliver customer satisfaction on each job with “Customer Service the Way It Used to Be!” Arrange for all your water heater and other plumbing services in Sacramento, CA and the surrounding areas with us.
What Makes a Heat Pump Water Heater Different?
The conventional electric water heater uses electric resistance heating to heat up the water inside the tank. Current runs through electric heating elements in the tank, and the heat generated from the elements transfers into the water. It’s the same way the heating elements in a toaster or electric oven work.
Electric resistance heating is expensive, however. It requires a great deal of energy to create heat. What a heat pump water heater does is to move heat rather than create it. The heat pump draws thermal energy from the air surrounding the water heater using refrigerant. The refrigerant evaporates along a coil exposed to the air, absorbing heat. The refrigerant then moves into a heat exchanger, where it condenses and releases the heat into the water tank. This provides a water heat solution using electricity that is far less expensive.
Why Should I Consider a Heat Pump Water Heater?
We strongly recommend using a heat pump water heater if your home doesn’t have a gas line. Natural gas is an inexpensive fuel and we advise using it for water heating. If that isn’t an option, then installing a heat pump water heater gives you a far less expensive option than a conventional electrical resistance water heater.
Not only does a heat pump water heater cut down on energy costs, it works faster at heating water than using electrical resistance. These models also offer some flexibility: If your home already uses a heat pump for indoor comfort, it can be adapted to work with your new water heater installation.
