Automatic Shut–Off Valves in Sacramento, CA
Here’s a nightmare most homeowners experience at one time or another: They go away for a week-long vacation, maybe longer, but keep wondering if something has gone wrong in their home. Chief among their worries is a major plumbing fiasco that ends up sending water into the basement or other parts of the house, creating massive amounts of water damage and harming irreplaceable items. This isn’t an irrational fear—these types of plumbing disasters can occur.
But there’s a rational response to this, and that’s to have an automatic shut-off valve in place on your plumbing system. If your house doesn’t already have a shut-off valve for emergencies, speak to one of the professional plumbers at Crystal Blue Plumbing, Heating & Air. We offer high-quality plumbing services to Sacramento, CA and the surrounding areas, and have since 1976. Protecting your home and seeing to your full satisfaction is our #1 priority!
How an Automatic Shut–Off Valve Works
An automatic shut–off valve is attached to the point where the water main brings fresh water into a house. The valve can detect when a burst pipe or other plumbing accident has occurred in a number of ways. One of the simplest is through pressure: the valve can detect an abrupt drop in water pressure, which means a large amount of water is escaping from somewhere in the plumbing.
The valve then closes on its own to stop the water flow. The valves can also work through detectors on the floor that pick up the presence of water where it shouldn’t be. The valve connects to a control panel in the home that alerts the homeowner to when it’s activated. Plumbers can make whatever repairs are necessary and then reset the valve.
The Value of Automatic Shut–Off Valves
Some home plumbing systems already have an automatic shut–off valve attached, but not all do. If your home doesn’t have one, this is a service we strongly recommend you arrange with us. Even if the valve actually never needs to function (in fact, we hope it never needs to) simply having it in place provides a fantastic peace of mind.
And for the times when it needs to do its job, you’ll be thankful to have it. Water damage is incredibly expensive to mitigate and leaves lasting effects. The automatic shut–off valve is a basic but indispensable defense against one of the worst disasters a home might face.
