Things to consider before getting an AC unit installed in your home

AC unit
Summer is around the corner again and you notice that your house isn’t cooling quite the way it should. Is it time to get an AC unit installed? It seems like that should be an easy thing to do, just buy one and have it installed. Wrong. There are several things to consider beforehand.

The primary thing to think about is the size of the unit needed for your home in particular. Air conditioning units come in several sizes. The most common mistake made by home owners is purchasing a unit that is either too big or too small for the space being cooled. Take into consideration not only the square footage but how many people are living there and the layout of the house. The recommended guideline is 2,000 BTU for every 50 square meters of space.

Something else to consider is the location of the unit being installed. Do not have one installed facing direct sunlight or next to trees or plants. Light puts off heat, and heat makes it harder to cool. Keep the Air Conditioner away from all debris or anything that could possibly fall on it or cause any structural damage.

What kind of flooring do you have? This could make a difference in the speed it takes to cool a room. This is based off the theory that hot air rises, cool air sinks. It’s thought that air can bounce off solid surfaces, so keep that in mind. Make sure the if buying window units, that the holes in your window are measured correctly so that the unit will fit.

There are many things to consider when thinking about having an air conditioner installed. It is safer and much easier to hire a trained professional to do this for you. Mistakes can be costly when dealing with things such as this. Do not attempt to do it yourself.
