What is a mini split?

HVAC systems

A mini-split heat pump provides forced-air heating and cooling, but without the use of duct-work. Thus the “ductless” terminology.

Like standard air-source heat pumps, mini splits have two main components — an outdoor compressor/condenser and an indoor air-handling unit. A conduit, which houses the power cable, refrigerant tubing, suction tubing, and a condensate drain, links the outdoor and indoor units.

Ductless split systems provide targeted heating and cooling comfort when conventional central HVAC equipment is too costly or impractical to install. Widely adopted in Europe and Southeast Asia, ductless technology continues to gain popularity in the U.S. as consumers and businesses look for cost-effective alternatives to window units, PTACs (packaged terminal air conditioners) and inefficient ducted systems. Sacramento home owners are increasingly becoming more aware of the ductless technology and at Crystal Blue Plumbing, Heating & Air we seeing increased demand for the ductless systems.

Should I invest in a ductless mini split for my home?

GREEN LEAFEWhen choosing a system for your home, business, garage etc. make sure you consider the application first(something your contractor should be doing automatically). Including, where the copper lines will run, how far they will run, if there are space constraints indoors or outdoors, what local climate are we working with and so forth. All of these elements are important to the process. Every home and application is different. Further the needs and desires of each consumer is different as well. Being on the same page between both contractor and consumer is key to finding the right product.

Remember ductless mini splits will save you money on your energy bills and lower your carbon footprint.
