The Basics of a Central AC System

A central air conditioner is also known as a split air conditioner because instead of using a single unit, it is divided into indoor and outdoor units connected through power and refrigerant lines. The outdoor unit is known as the condenser, and it contains a compressor, fan, and condenser coil.

This is where refrigerant is placed under pressure to change it into a hot gas. The heat from the refrigerant gas is released to the outdoors to cool it. The indoor unit contains a blower fan and evaporator coil. The cold refrigerant draws heat from the air, and the blower fan then sends the cooled air into the ventilation ducts leading to the rooms.

Looking for Repairs for a Central Air Unit?

The modern split air conditioner is constructed to last from 10 to 15 years. However, it can encounter malfunctions during this time—and only trained HVAC technicians can correctly repair them. Don’t try to do any of this work on your own, or hand it off to an amateur "handyman." Call us any time of the day or night for cooling system repair work if you notice the following signs of problems with your AC:

  • A decline in cooling power
  • Strange noises (hissing, rattling, grinding, shrieking)
  • A drop in airflow from the vents
  • Odd smells coming from the vents
  • Uneven cooling around the rooms
  • Short–cycling, i.e. the compressors turns on and off rapidly

Our technicians will quickly find out what’s wrong with your central AC and have it repaired. The problem could be refrigerant leaks, dirt along the coils, motors wearing down, or electrical connection troubles.

Regular Maintenance for Central AC Systems Sacramento, CA

After a long summer of work, a split air conditioner will have accumulated a great deal of stress, dust, and dirt. If allowed to simply continue that way into the next summer, the AC can end up becoming inefficient and at high risk of suffering from a malfunction. To keep a central air conditioner in peak shape, it needs annual spring maintenance—and that’s something we offer with our Crystal Blue Service Club.
